James Lewis got his first firefighting experience in the Navy. He has twenty-one years of extensive experience in rural firefighting and brings all of that vast experience into play to help both Abernant Fire Dept and the members of our community.
James has certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and has worked closely with county officials and agencies to get faster ambulance response to our community. In our past, ambulances could take as much as 45 minutes to arrive on scene, James, working together with ambulance companies, and the Tuscaloosa Sheriffs Office, have reduced those arrival times which are now averaging from 6 to 12 minutes.
James has been Fire Chief of Abernant since June 2006.
